Your Guide to Remotely Disable Apple Pay

Losing your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch can be pretty stressful. Having to worry about the cost of replacing your device is bad enough, but finding out that someone is using your Apple Pay account to buy stuff is the worst. If you don’t know about remotely disabling this mobile payment and digital wallet service, the criminals will have access to the credit or debit cards you’ve added to it.

Ways to Remotely Disable Apple Pay

Use Apple’s Find My Service

Every Apple gadget has the Apple’s Find My app built into it. This extremely important tool can help you recover a stolen or lost Apple device.  

However, it also plays a critical role in ensuring that the person who has your lost gadget won’t be able to go on a shopping spree using any of the credit and debit cards in your Apple Pay account. To turn off Apple Pay, follow these steps:

• Go to iCloud.com/find and use your Apple ID to sign in. You can also choose to launch the Find My app on one of your other Apple devices.
• Select the gadget you lost.
• Find Activate under the Lost Mode section and click or tap it.
• Be sure to enter a lock screen message that features a way to get a hold of you. Turning on the Lost Mode allows you to suspend the cards you’ve added to Apple Pay.  

• To reactivate Apple Pay once you get your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, simply enter your passcode.  

Remove Payment Cards via the Apple ID Account Page

You can easily remove your payment cards from your Apple Pay account by using the Apple ID account page. Here’s what you should do:

• Head over to the Apple ID support page and be sure to sign in to your account.
• Next, scroll down to the devices section.
• Tap on the Apple device you wish to eliminate your payment information from.
• Click Remove all cards. A message should appear to prompt you to confirm your destination.
