Top Reasons Why Find My iPhone Isn’t Working

The first thing anyone does when their iPhone is lost or stolen is to use an important tool for locating it – Find My iPhone. It combines your smartphone’s built-in GPS with the online services that iCloud provides.

Find My iPhone allows you to remotely delete the data from your phone or lock your phone to protect your information from prying eyes. However, what happens when Find My iPhone isn’t working?

Top Reasons Why Find My iPhone Isn’t Working

Find My Phone or iCloud Aren’t On

When you first set up your iPhone, it’s best to enable both iCloud and Find My Phone to ensure that both features can locate and contact your device if you lose it or if it gets stolen. If both services aren’t on, you can’t expect them to identify the device they should look for or how to contact it.

Your iPhone Is Turned Off or Has No Power

To send its location to Find My iPhone, your device needs to send GPS signals and communicate with Wi-Fi or cellular networks. Unless it has battery power or is turned on, Find My iPhone won’t be able to locate it.

The best thing that Find My iPhone can do when it is enabled on a device that’s out of battery power or is turned off is to show your smartphone’s last known location before its power was cut. Keep in mind that the service will display that specific location in the app or website for only 24 hours.

Your iPhone Has No Internet Connection

Unless the missing device connects to the internet to report its current location to Find My iPhone, you won’t be able to locate it. In other words, if your iPhone is on Airplane Mode through Control Center or out of range of Wi-Fi or cellular networks, it can’t say where it is.

Again, the best thing you can do is to see your phone’s last known location in the app or website for 24 hours.
