Did you know that the second major update to the iOS and iPadOS 14 operating systems are already out there in the wild? If you still haven’t updated your Apple device to iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2, you’re missing out. Here are some of the newest iOS 14.2 features that you should discover:

Intercom

Apple made communication between family members a lot easier in the home through its new Intercom feature. Besides communicating through the HomePod speakers, people can also send and receive spoken messages through their iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, AirPods, and CarPlay.

If you want to activate Intercom, just say “Hey Siri, Intercom,” followed by your message. Even if the users are away from home, they can still communicate with each other through Intercom!

New Emoji

iOS 14.2 happens to be Apple’s emoji update this fall. Expect to see 13 fresh and new emoji characters such as pinched fingers, black cat, anatomical heart, mammoth, bell pepper, dodo, fly, bubble tea, tamale, ninja, smiling face with a tear, and more!

Music Recognition

You’ll notice a new Music Recognition toggle in Control Center that signifies integrating the Shazam app in the iOS operating system. This feature allows you to discover music playing around you. It can also recognize music playing in apps even when you’re using your AirPods.

You can use the Settings app to add Music Recognition to your Control Center. To use it, you have to activate the Control Center before you tap on the Shazam icon for song recognition. This process is easier than opening the Shazam app or asking your favorite digital assistant, Siri.

In the latest iOS version, you’ll also notice that the Now Playing widget found in the Control Center has also been redesigned. This can automatically serve up your recently played albums when no music is playing. What’s more, AirPlay also has a redesigned interface that makes it more convenient for you to listen to your jams across multiple AirPlay 2-compatible devices all at the same time!
