iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max: A Step-By-Step Guide to Using Night Mode When Taking Portrait Shots

Are you excited to explore the photography features of your newly-purchased Apple device? Perhaps what you have in your hands is an iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, or an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Any of these phones have a Night Mode feature that allows you to take clear and crisp photos even when you don’t have the best lighting conditions!

What’s Different About Night Mode?

Unlike before when Night Mode was only limited to the rear-facing wide-angle camera in the iPhone 11 series, with iPhone 12, this feature’s functionality has extended to all the lenses. However, if you’re a proud owner of an iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, you’ll be able to unlock Night Mode Portraits with LiDAR Scanner’s advanced photography smarts.

Taking a Portrait

The first thing you have to do is launch the Camera app on your new iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max. Next, select Portrait, which you can easily see below the viewfinder. Check the top-left corner of the screen to see if the flash icon is yellow. Turn it off by tapping it.

At the top of the viewfinder, look for the Night Mode icon that resembles a crescent moon. Night Mode automatically engages, and the icon will turn yellow if the ambient light is low. Even if it isn’t engaged, your portrait can still benefit from Night Mode if you tap the button. However, if the Night Mode icon doesn’t appear at all, this means that you won’t be able to use it because there’s too much light.

Manual

You also have the option to engage Night Mode manually. Simply adjust the exposure time by suing the slider that’s just above the shutter button. You’ll know that the exposure time has already been selected when you see that Night Mode is automatically engaged. If you still want to make your own adjustments, simply tap the yellow moon icon and move the horizontal dial.

Finally, you may tap the shutter button and hold your device still while the exposure time is running you’re the portrait photo is being taken.
