How to Set Up Apple’s New Intercom Feature

Did you know that Apple has a new Intercom feature that allows you to communicate with other Apple device users throughout the home? You can use it to send messages to specific areas, rooms, or people! Intercom works well with the following devices:

Apple Watch
iPhone
iPad
AirPods
HomePod
HomePod Mini
CarPlay

This cool new feature makes it possible for you to dictate a voice message on any of these devices and have it delivered to one person in your family or all of them. If you don’t know how to set up Intercom, read on.

What Intercom Requires

If you’re planning to use this new Intercom feature on your iOS devices, HomePod, CarPlay, you have to have the HomePod 14.2 software update or later. You must also have the iOS and iPadOS 14.2 or later. If you’re using an Apple Watch, Intercom works with watchOS7.1 and later.

Setting Up Intercom Is Extremely Easy!

Before you begin, be sure to update your HomePod software 14.2 and iOS 14.2. You can set up Intercom in the Home app. It’s important to note that this feature works if you have HomePod or any other compatible device. Also, your iPhone has no dedicated interface for using Intercom outside of your Home app.

To set up Intercom, Install HomePod 14.2 software and open up the Home app. Look for the little house icon in the upper left corner and tap it. Next, tap on Home Settings and scroll down to find Intercom so you can tap it. At this point, you may make adjustments to your notification settings and select the people who can use the feature.

Family members who happen to have remote access to the Home app will be able to send and receive Intercom messages even when they’re not home. These messages will be displayed as audio notifications on your iPhone and Apple Watch. Unless the person is added as someone with access to the home, they won’t be able to use the Intercom feature. To add a person, enter the Home Settings screen and tap on Invite People.
