Did you just accidentally drop your iPhone in the water? Before rushing to see an Apple technician, there are some things you can do to get the water out of your device. Apple’s risk-averse approach to such situations involves placing your wet iPhone in a well-ventilated, dry, and open space.
If Apple’s recommended solution doesn’t work, follow the steps below to help you get the liquid out of your iPhone and restore the functionality of your device.
You’ll have to remove your device from its case to get rid of the water that may have gotten trapped in it. While you’re at it, be sure to remove all of your phone accessories, including its screen protector.
Get rid of all traces of liquid inside your device’s charging port, microphone, and speakers by holding your iPhone facing down and using a soft, dry cloth to gently pat it dry. Be sure to avoid using a heater or a fan in an attempt to dry your device if you don’t want to cause damage to your iPhone’s sensitive components.
Most of those whose iPhones have accidentally come in contact with water aren’t so sure if they should turn their device off or leave it in on. However, experts recommend turning it off because it minimizes the chances of getting incoming notifications that may trigger a short circuit and cause considerable damage to its internal circuitry.
The next step is to remove the SIM card and the SIM tray to check if water has found its way into the SIM slot. In case it has, use a cotton swab to gently get rid of the moisture.
You can use silica gel to absorb moisture from the internal and external parts of your iPhone by placing your device in a plastic container that has silica gel packets in it. Leave your device in the container for two to three days.
If your iPhone’s full functionality isn’t restored even after following these steps, bring your device to your local iTech Palm Beach store. Our technicians can get it up and running in no time.
