How to Add a Bank Card for Apple Pay

Did you know that out of nearly a billion active iPhone users, only 441 million of them use Apple Pay? If you’re planning to try out this digital payment method, you have to learn how to add your debit or credit cards to Apple Wallet. You can freely add American Express, Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.

Step-By-Step Guide to Adding a Bank Card in Wallet

Adding a bank card to Apple Wallet is extremely easy. Even if you’re using an older iOS version, the process is still the same. Just follow these steps and you’re all set:

  • Go to Settings and open the Wallet app.
  • Tap on the Plus (+) sign icon found in the top right corner of the screen.
  • Tap Continue when a page that explains Apple Pay appears.
  • Select Credit or Debit Card.

You’ll be led to the Card Details page as soon as Wallet recognizes your new bank card. Check your name and card number.

  • Tap on Enter Card Details Manually so that you can type the details in if you prefer not to scan your card.
  • Hit Next
  • Verify your expiration date and security code.
  • Tap Next again.
  • Hit Agree after reading through the terms and conditions.

Verification Via Email, Phone, Phone Call, or Bank Mobile App

At this point, your card is added to Apple Pay. However, some bank cards may require you to verify them before you get to use them. You may process the verification via email, phone number, phone call, or your bank’s mobile app.

Email

A verification code will be sent to the email that’s attached to your Apple account. Type the code into the text box.

Phone

A verification code will be sent to you through text and it will automatically appear on your keyboard. Just tap on the code to enter.

Phone Call

You can also call the bank to verify your debit or credit card without using a code. However, the process can take some time.

Your Bank’s Mobile App

If your card issuer requires you to log in to their mobile app to confirm your card, just follow their instructions.

You should receive a notification from Wallet that says your bank card is ready for Apple Pay. You should also see a page that says Card Activated.
