AirPods Max: Ways to Control the Active Noise Cancellation Feature

Controlling AirPods Max’s Active Noise Cancellation Feature is Easy!

Before getting started, know that your iOS device has to be running iOS 14.3 or later. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be able to support your AirPods Max. To check if your device is updated, follow these steps:

• Launch the Settings App
• Tap General ˃ Software Update

Method 1: Using an actual button on your headphones.

• Take your AirPods out of the Smart Case and put them over your ears to connect them to your device.
• To cycle between Noise Cancellation and Transparency, find the noise control button that’s on the top of the right ear cup.
• As you switch between the two functions, you’ll be hearing a tone.  
• You may choose to customize the noise control button or turn off this feature completely.

Method 2: Access through onscreen menus on your connected iOS device.

• Connect your AirPods Max to your iPhone or iPad and place the headphones over your ears.
• Look for the Settings app on your device and launch it.
• Next, tap Bluetooth.
• Head over to My Devices and tap the information icon which looks like a circled “i”. You can easily find it on the list next to AirPods Max.
• Depending on your preference, tap Noise Cancellation, Off, or Transparency. These options can be found under Noise Control.

Method 3: Access via onscreen menus on your connected iPhone or iPad.

• Connect your AirPods Max to your device before putting them over your ears.
• Go to Control Center. If you’re using an iPad that has a Home button, double-tap it. Swipe up from the bottom of your screen if you have an iPhone 8 or an earlier model. Alternatively, swipe down from the upper right portion of your screen if you’re using a 2018 iPad Pro, iPhone X, or a later model.  
• Next, press and hold the Control Center volume bar.
• Find the Noise Control button and tap it.
• To switch between Noise Cancellation, Off, or Transparency, use the strip of buttons.
