What are the Features of Apple’s Translate App on the iPhone?

Interface

The Translate app’s user-friendly interface makes it easy for you to choose languages to translate to and from. You may choose to translate words and phrases in text form or you may tap the microphone option and speak them aloud. The original phrase is shown in black and the translated version is in blue. To get the correct pronunciation of the words, simply tap the play button.  

Languages

You can use the Translate app to translate to and from 11 different languages including the following:

  • Mainland Chinese

  • Italian  
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Portuguese

  • Spanish

Voice Translations

To use voice translation for translating into your target language, tap the app’s microphone and speak a phrase, long sentence, or speech out loud. You may play the spoken translation to hear the correct way of pronouncing the words.

Text Translations

If you want to copy and paste something from a document or a website for a translation, you can tap Enter text and type or paste text translations into the app.  

Conversation Mode

If you want to chat back and forth with a person who speaks another language, get to Conversation Mode by turning your iPhone to landscape mode. Each person must tap the microphone button so that the iPhone can listen to and translate between languages. To enable automatic speech detection, make sure that the Automatic Detection is toggled on.  

Dictionary

Translate apps’ built-in dictionary feature provides definitions for any word in any language that’s available for use in the app. Simply tap on the word in the language to get its meaning.
