3 Ways to Remotely Control Your iPhone’s Camera

Did you know that Apple makes it possible for you to take a selfie without even touching your iPhone? Let’s have a look at the different ways to remotely control the shutter button on your iPhone.

Use Voice Control

You can remotely activate the Volume Up or Volume Down button by voice by following these steps:

  • First, go to Settings and tap Accessibility before turning on the switch for Voice Control.
  • Next, open the Camera app before lining up your shot.
  • To trigger the shutter, just say “turn up the volume” or “turn down the volume”.
  • When you’re done, simply turn off the Voice Control.

Use Your Apple Watch

You have the option to use your Apple Watch to remotely take photos on your iPhone. This allows you to control the Live Photo, flash, timer, and HDR. Here’s how it works:

  • Position your iPhone before opening the Camera app on your Apple Watch.
  • Next, tap the shutter button. Although the shot uses a self-timer that goes off in three seconds by default, you have the option to change the settings.
  • Find the three-dot ellipsis icon and tap it.
  • Turn off the timer and switch between the front and rear camera.
  • You can choose to turn the flash to “Auto” or “on or off,” turn Live Photo to “Auto” or “on or off,” and the HDR to “on or off.”

Ask for Siri’s Help

Although you can command Siri to open the Camera app, this won’t allow you to snap the shutter. The trick is to use a built-in Siri shortcut called “Say Cheese.” Here’s how you can do it:

  • On your iPhone, open the Shortcuts app.
  • Head to Gallery and type “Say Cheese” in the Search field.
  • Open it by tapping the shortcut.
  • Tap the Add Shortcut button.
  • Tap OK after Siri asks you to give it permission to access the camera and your photos.
  • Lastly, say “Hey Siri, say cheese.”
